The home page, or index page, is the most important
page of your website. In most cases this is the "entry door" to
your website. Visitors want to know immediately what services or
products you are offering and what makes your business unique. You
may have the most wonderful product, but only if you can grab their
attention within seconds, they will click on any of your links.
- Your website represents your business, craft all
pages carefully to present your business in the best possible way
- Every sentence counts. Don't dwell on long, unnecessary
descriptions.
- Use a san serif font (Arial, Helvetica, Verdana
etc.) These fonts are easier to read on the screen.
- Make sure there is enough contrast between your
background and text. Keep in mind that some people are visually
impaired. Don't exclude them from browsing your site. Stay away
from very busy background images behind text, too!
- Have some friends read your text and criticize it.
- And last but not least: Spell check! Spell check!
Spell check! Spell check!
